김유정 문학에 나타난 중동태의 윤리와 아름다운 가상

본고는 김유정의 문학을 중동태의 관점에서 연구하였다. 특히 김유정이 강조했던 근본윤리와 근대성, 자연의 의미를 중동태의 관점에서 살펴보았다. 김유정이 강조했던 ‘근본 윤리’는 중동태의 윤리였다. 크로포트킨의 상호부조는 중동태의 윤리를 실천하는 방법이었다. 능동태와 수동태가 의지와 책임의 문제를 강요하는 언어구조라면 중동태는 행위의 주체를 묻는 것이 아니라 행위의 과정 속에서 주체를 판단한다. 중동태는 책임의 문제보다는 자신의 행위가 지니는 의미를 성찰할 것을 요구한다. 이것이 바로 상호부조의 원리이자 김유정이 희망했던 ‘사랑의 공동체’이다. 이를 위해 김유정은 세계의 몰락을 재촉하는 근대성을 비판하기 시작했으며, 이는 크로포트킨과 톨스토이의 영향이 컸다. 특히 톨스토이는 예술사와 문명사의 관점에서 근대성의 문제점을 바라보게 해주었다. 김유정은 유토피아의 꿈을 현실로부터 지켜내고자 했다. 이른바 관념과 현실의 분리이다. 김유정은 문학과 비문학 속의 자연을 분명하게 구분함으로써 근대와 유토피아 관념을 분리하고자 했다. 결국 김유정의 문학 행위는 근대라는 괴물에 맞서는 것이자 중동태의 윤리를 통해 아름다운 가상을 구원하려는 문학적 응전방식이었다.

This paper has conducted research on Kim Yu-jeong's literature from the perspective of the middle voice. In particular, it examined Kim Yu-jeong's emphasis on fundamental ethics, modernity, and the meaning of nature through the lens of the middle voice. The "fundamental ethics" highlighted by Kim Yu-jeong were indeed a part of the middle voice's ethics. Peter Kropotkin's mutual aid served as a practical method for the ethics of the middle voice. While the active and passive voices impose issues of will and responsibility in their language structure, the middle voice judges the agent within the process of action. The middle voice places greater emphasis on self-reflection concerning one's actions rather than the issue of responsibility. This is the very principle of mutual aid and the "community of love" that Kim Yu-jeong aspired to. In pursuit of this, Kim Yu-jeong began criticizing modernity, which hastened the world's decline. This influence was particularly evident from figures like Peter Kropotkin and Tolstoy. In particular, Tolstoy, from the perspective of art and civilization, shed light on the problems associated with modernity. Kim Yu-jeong aimed to preserve the dream of "aesthetic illusion" from the reality, often referred to as the dichotomy of ideology and reality. Kim Yu-jeong distinctly differentiated between nature in literature and non-literature. Through this, he sought to separate the concepts of modernity and utopia. In the end, Kim Yu-jeong's literature was a literary struggle against the monstrosity of modernity, using the ethics of the middle voice to rescue the aesthetic illusion.
