이민진 소설 『파친코』에 나타난 공간적 내러티브에 대한 연구

한국계 미국인 작가 이민진의 소설 『파친코』는 주로 일본에 사는 한인 이민 4대 가족이 역사 속에서 몸부림치며 살아가는 이야기를 다루며 그 속에서 다중적 의미 텍스트 공간을 보여준다. 소설 속 공간은 이야기를 전개하는 배경일 뿐만 아니라 내러티브 수단으로서 캐릭터 구축 및 줄거리 전개, 주제·의미 전달에 중요한 영향을 미친다. 이에 텍스트 공간은 복잡한 은유와 의미 체계로서, 사회, 역사, 문화, 윤리 등 다양한 차원의 의미를 나타낸다. 공간적 내러티브는 한국계 미국인 유명 작가인 이민진 작가의 소설에서 깊은 사상적 의미를 가진다. 공간적 체험에 대한 이민진 작가의 문화적 상상뿐만 아니라 소설 속 공간적 형식을 담아낸다. 본연구는 공간적 내러티브 측면에서 『파친코』의 문학 내러티브에서 공간이 갖는 주제와 의미, 가치 판단을 분석하고자 한다. 먼저, 『파친코』 속 공간 표현 및 유형을 바탕으로, 이민진 작가의 감정구조와 이데올로기를 결합하여 추상적인 의미의 공간적 내러티브 전략을 살펴본다. 다음으로, 사회학적 의미에서 소설 텍스트와 외부 세계에 나타난 사회 공간을 고찰하여 『파친코』 속 미묘하고 복잡한 공간적 내러티브에 반영된 다양한 사회 주제를 제시한다. 나아가 예술 혁신, 사회적 책임, 역사적 진실과 소설적 의미 등 중대한 명제에 대한 이민진 작가의 철학을 탐색하고자 한다.

The novel Pachinko by Korean American writer Min-Kim Lee's is written about four generations of Korean expatriates struggling to move forward in the flow of history and reveals a textual space with Multiple Meanings. The space in the novel is not only a container and background for the story development, but participates in and influences the characterization, plot development, and construction of thematic meaning as a narrative technique and means, thus making the textual space a complex metaphorical and semantic system that is endowed with multi-level meanings such as social, historical, cultural, ethical etc. Spatial narrative has profound thoughts in Min-Kim Lee’s novels, carrying not only the writer's cultural imagination of spatial experience, but also her creative practice of spatial forms of novels. This paper explores the thematic implications and value judgments of space in the literary narrative of Pachinko from the perspective of spatial narrative. Starting from the specific types of space in Pachinko, and combined with the writer's Feeling Structure and ideology, it analyses the spatial narrative strategy in the abstract sense from the upper strata and the social space formed by the superposition of the novel text and the external world in the sociological sense from the upper strata. The aim is to reveal the rich social themes under the subtle and complex spatial narrative of Pachinko, and to illustrate the writer's philosophical thoughts on such major propositions as artistic innovation, cultural dynamics, social responsibility, historical truth and novel significance.
