냉전-분단 체제와 월남서사의 이동 문법 : 황순원의 『카인의 후예』와 임옥인의 『월남전후』를 중심으로

이 글에서는 황순원의 『카인의 후예』와 임옥인의 『월남전후』를 대상으로 하여 월남서사 속 이동의 수행적 과정과 그러한 과정의 조건들로서 공간 재편 및 인식에 대해 살펴보았다. 월남서사는 해방 직후부터 한국전쟁이 전개되는 가운데 북에서 남으로 이동한 자들이 어떻게 남북한으로 분할된 이념 공간의 재편 과정 속에서 자신의 존재를 증명하는가, 즉 개인의 존재 가능성을 확보하는가와 함께 거기에 개입해 들어간 분단 체제의 통치성의 한 단면을 확인하게 한다. 이 글에서는 월남한 자의 자기 이야기를 따라가면서 그들이 구축한 이동의 조건과 문법들이 갖는 의미와 함께 그것이 분단 체제하 냉전-반공 이데올로기와 결합되는 단초를 확인하였다. 월남을 수행하는 과정에서 38선 이북은 상실과 폐허의 공간으로 위치 지어지는 동시에 남성 젠더의 폭력성이 극대화되는 남성 동성사회적 욕망의 공간으로 구축된다. 해서 그곳은 월남한 자로 하여금 자기 존재의 근거를 송두리째 뿌리 뽑히고 내쫓기는 토포포비아의 공간이자, 추방된 자가 탈출을 감행하여 상실의 고통을 치유하고 자유를 회복할 수 있는 이상향으로서 38선 이남을 상상하게 하는 동력을 작동시키는 디스토피아로서 제시된다. 황순원의 『카인의 후예』와 임옥인의 『월남전후』는 한 개인의 월남의 과정이 서사화되어 제시되는 가운데 해방 직후 북조선의 정치경제적 조건들이 어떻게 가로놓여 있는가를 파악할 수 있게 할 뿐만 아니라, 남북한 이념 공간의 분할 및 획정의 내러티브적 기원을 확인할 수 있게 한다.

In this article I discussed the process of movement in narratives of defecting from North Korea and recognition of space as conditions of such process. The narratives of defecting from North Korea allows us to confirm how those who moved from north to south prove their existence in the process of reorganization of ideological space divided into North and South Korea. And identify one aspect of the governance of the division system that intervened therein. In this article, following the self-narratives of the North Korean refugees, they identified the meanings of the conditions and grammar of the movements they built. And also identified the beginning of the bond with the Cold War-anti-communication ideology under the division system. In the process of defecting from North Korea, the 38th parallel north is located as a place of loss and ruin, and is also constructed as a space for male homo-social desire that maximizes the violence of male gender. As such, it is revealed as a space of topophobia, where the North Korean refugees are rooted and driven out of the ground of their existence. At the same time, it is presented as a dystopia that drives the imagination of sub-38th parallel as an ideal place for exiles to escape, to heal the pain of loss and to restore freedom. Hwang Sun-won’s Descendant of Cain and Lim, Ok-in’s Before and after defect from North Korea helped to grasp the political and economic conditions immediately after liberation. In addition, the narrative origins of the division and delimitation of ideological spaces of the two Koreas can be identified.
