동아시아 소설의 상호문화적 독법 연구

이 연구는 배타적 동질성을 해체하고 비교의 자세를 견지하는 독법의 계발을 제안하고 이를 상호문화적 독법이라 명명한다. 즉 각각의 텍스트를 가로지르는 대화적 읽기를 통해 이질적 문화권의 텍스트를 넘나들고 서로 접촉시키는 것이다. 한·중·일의 소설가들이 2000년대 이후 발표한 소설들을 표본적으로 검토한 결과 자본주의라는 초도덕적 프로그램과 응전해가는 양상의 공통점과 차이점이 포착되었다. 한국의 소설에서 지배적으로 떠오르는 양상은 청년들의 피로한 생존투쟁이다. 중국 소설의 경우 자본과 가치의 충돌, 전통과 서구의 충돌, 개인과 사회의 충돌, 세대와 세대의 충돌을 다루기 위해 ‘성(性)’ 문제를 충돌의 중핵에 배치하는 경향이 두드러진다. 일본 소설의 경우 짙은 폐쇄감과 무력감에 빠져 있거나 자본주의적 노동에 대한 근본적 질문을 제출하는 양상을 보인다.

이처럼 근대성을 매우 지난한 방식으로 ‘경험’하고 있는 동아시아권의 문학적 서사들은 그러한 모순적 존재로서 문학이 갖는 현실응전의 힘을 풍부하게 내장하고 있다. 즉 자본주의 사회의 불안 앞에서 동아시아 문학은 공동의 저항선을 모색하고 있으며, 이를 교직하여 읽는 상호문화적 독법을 통해 우리는 다채로운 사유와 연대를 형성할 수 있다. 그러한 가능성 속에서 우리는 추상적 다문화주의가 아니라, ‘다문화적 마음’을 추구할 수 있다. 본고가 제안한 상호문화적 독법은 그러한 추구의 한 방향이라 할 수 있다.

This study suggests the development of reading literature that dismisses exclusivity and maintains a comparative attitude, and calls it intercultural reading. In other words, the texts of the heterogeneous cultures are crossed and brought into contact with each other through interactive reading across the texts.

What is remarkable is that a common resistance line to the capitalist system is captured in the novels of Korean, Chinese and Japanese writers submitted since the 2000s. The dominant aspect of Korean novels is the tired survival struggle of young people. In the case of Chinese novels, they share a similar problem consciousness but place the ‘sex’ issue at the core of the conflict to deal with conflicts. Japanese novels are in a state of deep closure and powerlessness, or present fundamental questions about capitalistic labor.

Intercultural reading of these aspects of empowerment can lead to implications for literacy education in multi-cultural society. In the face of the insecurity of capitalist society, East Asian literature is searching for a common resistance line, and we can form various thoughts and solidarity through intercultural reading that weaves together. In such a possibility, we can pursue ‘multi-cultural mind’ rather than abstract multiculturalism. The intercultural reading proposed in this paper is one direction of such pursuit.
