죽음과 정치의 알고리즘 : 실시간 미디어 네트워크 이미지에 의한 정치적인 것의 가능성

이 글은 2010년대 중반 이후 디지털 미디어 환경에서 세월호 침몰사건, 이태원 압사 참사, 12·3 비상계엄 시도 등의 참사 이미지가 실시간으로 전달되면서 나타나는 정치적 가능성과 한계를 분석한다. 참사 이미지가 개인과 공동체에 강렬한 정동을 불러일으키지만, 그것이 지속적인 정치적 행동으로 전환되는 과정은 결코 자명하지 않다. 실시간 미디어 네트워크를 통해 전달되는 충격적 이미지들은 플랫폼 알고리즘과 주의력 경제 시대의 파편화된 소비 구조 속에서 신속하게 망각되거나 이념 대립의 틀로 환원되는 경향을 보인다. 이 글은 참사 이미지의 ‘노이즈적인 것’과 ‘잔여’의 잠재적 가능성에 주목하여, 이러한 이미지들이 기존 감각 질서에 균열을 가하고 새로운 공동체적 응답의 가능성을 여는 정치적 계기로 작동할 수 있음을 논증한다. 디지털 시대 이미지 정치의 새로운 이해를 위해 랑시에르의 감각적인 것의 분배, 데리다의 유령성과 맥락 소환 개념을 활용하여 분석한다.

This paper analyzes the political possibilities and limitations of disaster images transmitted in real-time through digital media networks since the mid-2010s, focusing on the Sewol ferry disaster, Itaewon crowd crush, and the December 3rd martial law attempt. While disaster images evoke intense affects in individuals and communities, their transformation into sustained political action is neither automatic nor inevitable. Shocking images transmitted through real-time media networks tend to be quickly forgotten or reduced to ideological frameworks within platform algorithms and the fragmented consumption structure of the attention economy. This study examines the political potential of the "noisy" and "residual" aspects of disaster images, arguing that they can serve as catalysts for disrupting existing sensory orders and opening possibilities for new forms of communal response. The analysis employs Rancière's concept of the distribution of the sensible and Derrida's notions of spectrality and contextual invocation to provide a new understanding of image politics in the digital age.
