21세기식 여성 영웅 서사 : 정세랑의 『보건교사 안은영』을 중심으로

이 논문은 정세랑의 『보건교사 안은영』을 여성 영웅 서사의 관점에서 살펴본 연구이다. 『보건교사 안은영』은 다른 사람들의 눈에는 보이지 않는 욕망의 흔적인 젤리를 보고 그것을 없앨 수 있는 능력을 가진 보건교사 안은영이 그의 조력자인 한문교사 홍인표와 함께 학교와 학생들을 지켜나가는 이야기이다. 안은영은 자신의 선택을 따라 무조신(巫祖神)이 되어 많은 영혼을 도왔던 바리데기라는 여성 영웅의 계보를 잇는 영웅이다. 안은영은 무조신이 된 바리데기처럼 친절함으로 나쁜 것을 이기는 삶을 선택하는 과정을 보여준다. 소수자(여성, 보건교사)이면서 너른 이해심과 공감으로 타인을 수용하는 여성 영웅 안은영은 조력자(장애인에 한문교사인 소수자)와 함께 학교라는 모험의 세계에서 맞닥뜨리는 여러 문제들을 해결하는데, 그것은 세상에 보이는 친절함이 기반이 된 것이다. 영웅인 은영은 사회의 축소판과도 같은 학교 안에서 젤리와 싸우고 학생들을 치유하고 돌보며, 타인과 연대하며 그 공동체의 선을 추구한다. 이들이 학교에서 마주한 문제들은 여느 청소년들의 문제에서부터 학교를 이용하려는 욕망들, 자본주의적 욕망에 이르기까지 다양하다. 이런 점에서 이 소설은 영웅의 모험 속에 현실 사회에 대한 정치적 무의식을 보여주고 있다. 은영의 모험은 어떤 초자연적인 것과의 싸움이 아니라, 속물적 자본주의에 대한 욕망과 학교를 이용하여 사익을 추구하려는 강한 욕망과의 싸움이다. 이 과정에서 타인의 고통에 공감하는 친절함이 결국 상처입은 영혼을 위로한다는 것을 보여준다. 이로써 현대의 영웅인 보건교사 안은영은 바리데기로부터 시작된 한국형 여성 영웅 서사의 계보를 잇는다.

This paper is a study that examined Health Teacher Ahn Eun-young by Jeong Sa-rang from the perspective of female hero narrative. In this novel, Ahn Eun-young, a health teacher who has the ability to see and eliminate jelly, a trace of desire that others cannot see, protects the school and students with her helper Hong In-pyo, a Chinese literature teacher. Ahn is a hero who inherits the genealogy of a female hero named Baridegi, who became a shaman god according to her choice and helped many souls. This novel shows the process of choosing a life that wins over bad things with kindness like Baridegi. The kindness of a hero who is a minority (woman, health teacher) and accepts others with broad understanding and empathy is the core of the Korean-style female hero narrative. Ahn is not a hero who acts alone, but adventures with helper(disabled people, Chinese literature teacher), solidifies with others, and settles in the community. This school is a miniature version of society, and it is an unknown world where long-stacked oppression can explode at any time. The problems they face at school range from youth issues to capitalist desires. Eun-young's biggest weapon, which has altruism and a desire for public good, is kindness. Eun-young's adventure is not a battle against any supernatural. Eun-young and In-pyo's adventures allow us to face real problems that are covered with stopgap measures and not properly concluded. This shows that what a modern hero have to confront is not a battle against supernatural things, but a battle against social contradictions, and that kindness that sympathizes with other people's pain eventually soothes the wounded soul. As a result, Ahn Eun-young, a modern hero, continues the lineage of a Korean female hero narrative that began with Baridegi.
