‘여성화된 빈곤’을 통한 전후소설 연구 : 박경리의 『표류도』(1959)를 중심으로

한국전쟁이 야기한 비극적 참상 가운데 ‘여성화된 빈곤’은 그동안 충분히 논의되지 못한 주제라 할 수 있다. 전쟁과 빈곤은 긴밀히 연관되지만, 전후 빈곤의 여성화는 전쟁의 결과물만은 아니다. 그것은 전쟁의 산물인 동시에 사회 내부에서 귀결된 것이기도 하다. 무엇보다 여성 빈곤은 사회체제와의 접속면에서 결정되며, 당대의 지배규범과 이념의 개입으로 구체화된다. 빈곤은 여성에만 국한되지 않는 문제이되 전후의 위계화된 성별구조와 지배담론은 젠더에 따라 빈곤을 다른 방식으로 경험하게 하고 그 대응 또한 다르게 결정지었다 할 수 있다.

박경리의 초기 장편 『표류도』(1959)는 전후시기를 배경으로 빈곤서사의 의미를 복합적으로 드러내는 작품이다. 특히 여성의 ‘감추어진 빈곤’을 포함해 당시 심화되어가는 속물화 현상이 빈곤여성을 어떻게 규정하고, 직업여성의 노동이 새로운 배제와 박탈을 경험하는 통로가 되는지 반영한다는 점에서 주목의 대상이 된다. 50년대 후반은 사회구성원 대다수가 절대빈곤을 겪는 시대였지만, 여성에게 가난은 물적 차원에만 한정되지 않는다. 그것은 물질적 결핍만이 아닌 배제와 차별, 불안과 소외를 야기하는 이중 구속의 온상이었다. 이 글은 전후여성의 빈곤을 다각도에서 살핌으로써 박경리 초기 작품세계의 연구지평을 넓히고, 나아가 전후소설에 나타난 빈곤과 노동, 계층의 관계망에 대해 탐색하고자 한다.

Among the tragic horrors caused by the Korean War, 'feminized poverty' can be said to be a topic that has not been sufficiently discussed. War and poverty are closely related, but the feminization of postwar poverty is not only the result of war. It is both a product of war and a result of society. Above all, women's poverty is determined at the interface with the social system and is embodied by the intervention of the dominant norms and ideologies of the time. Poverty is not limited to women, but the hierarchical gender structure and dominant discourse before and after allowed poverty to be experienced in different ways depending on gender, and the responses were also determined differently.

Feminized poverty is based on the cultural and ideological structure of a society, but it can be discussed in various aspects, including poverty as a sign of anxiety and alienation. This thesis aims to broaden the research horizon of Park Kyung-ri's early work world by examining the poverty of postwar women from various angles.
