김훈 소설에서 돈과 자본의 문제 : 『공무도하』를 대상으로

이 연구는 김훈의 『공무도하』에 나타난 돈과 자본의 문제를 탐구한다. 작품에서 돈은 자본과 겹쳐 있기도 하고, 구분되기도 한다. 돈과 자본의 문제를 탐구하는 일은 우리 시대 디스토피아를 분석하는 일이며, 극복되지 않은 자본주의 근대성을 탐구하는 작업이다. 이 연구는 경제 자본과 구별하여 문화 자본 개념을 분석 도구로 활용함으로써 소설의 심층 세계에 접근하고자 했다. 자본이 구조화하는 세계는 쉽게 식별되지 않는 추상성을 가지고 있지만 문화 자본의 관점에서 보자면 계층사회의 뚜렷한 특징을 세 층위에서 분별할 수 있다. 첫째, 사회 구성원의 계층 성향에 따라 뚜렷한 대조가 나타나는 언어 스타일이 있다. 둘째, 자유 취향과 필요 취향으로 구분되는 음식 취향을 계층 성향으로 제시할 수 있다. 셋째, 문화 자본의 소유에 따라 양극화가 나타나는 노동의 유형이 있다. 이상의 분석을 통해 계층 구조화가 드러나는 양상을 밝혔다. 희미한 가능성이기는 하지만, 김훈의 소설에는 자본주의적 일상성 외부를 사유할 수 있는 가능성도 있다고 판단했다. 사랑의 가능성이 바로 그것이다. 여기서의 사랑은 특정의 제도적 정체성이나 보상 가치, 심지어는 사랑의 실현 가능성으로도 환원되지 않는 것이다. 최종적으로 이 연구는 사랑을 발견하고, 그 사랑을 사랑하게 하는 문학의 윤리 문제를 사유했다.

This paper attempted to approach the world in depth of novels by using the concept of cultural capital as an analysis tool, distinguishing it from economic capital. The world structured by capital has an abstractness that is not easily identified. However, from the perspective of cultural capital, the evident characteristics of hierarchical society can be distinguished at three levels. First, there is a language style in which distinct contrast appears according to the class tendency of members of society. Second, taste in food which is divided into taste of freedom and taste of necessity can be presented as class tendency. Third, there is a type of labor in which polarization appears according to the ownership of cultural capital. Through the above analysis, we identified the aspect of hierarchical structure. Although it is a faint possibility, it was judged that there is a possibility of thinking outside everyday life of capitalism. Finally, this research evaluated that this novel makes us think about the ethical issues of literature.
