진화론의 철학적 유형분석과 한·중·일 동아시아 수용의 경로

다윈은 19세기 말 기존 과학혁명에 지각변동을 불러온 인물로 평가할 수가 있다. 그것을 과학철학자들은 ‘다윈혁명’이라 불렀다. 다윈은 내적 속성이라는 동일성 사유와 본질주의, 그리고 목적론·결정론·기계론 등 그동안 서양을 지배해 왔던 전통적 세계관을 일거에 무력화시켰다. 이후 지금까지도 진화론은 생물학적 차원을 넘어 문학을 포함한 인문학 분야로까지 그 영향력을 확대하고 있다. 이 논문은 한국 근대문학사에서 논의되었던 진화론을 네 가지로 유형화한 후 그 성격을 특정 짓고, 한·중·일 동아시아 수용의 경로를 고찰하고자 한다. 이것은 진화론 수용을 동아시아 근대 담론 형성의 ‘기축(基軸)’으로 보았을 때, 작가들이 어떤 진화이론을 자신의 인식론의 토대로 삼아 식민지 주체 형성을 이루어나갔는지를 추적하는 하나의 방법론이 될 수 있을 것이고, 또한 작가들이 이와 연동해 시대 담론들에 어떠한 대응 태도를 보였는지, 이것이 작품세계에 어떠한 양상으로 전개되었는지를 분석하는 데도 하나의 참고점으로 삼을 수 있겠다고 생각한다.

Darwin can be evaluated as a person who caused a change in perception in the existing scientific revolution at the end of the 19th century. Scientific philosophers called it the 'Darwin Revolution'. Darwin neutralized the reason for identity, essentialism, and the traditional worldview that had dominated the West, such as teleology, determinism, and mechanical theory, at once. Since then, the theory of evolution has expanded its influence beyond the biological level to the field of humanities, including literature. This paper categorizes the evolutionary theories discussed in our modern history into four categories, specifies their characteristics, and examines the path of acceptance of East Asia in Korea, China, and Japan. Considering the acceptance of evolutionary theory as a "key axis" of the formation of modern East Asian discourse, I think it can be a methodology that tracks which evolution theory was used as the basis for their epistemology and how writers responded to the discourse of the times.
