1930년대 후반 잡지 『여성(女性)』의 독자 글쓰기 연구 : 여성주체의 형성과 여성의 내러티브를 중심으로
초록
본고는 『여성(女性)』(1936.4.~1940.12.)에 게재된 8편의 독자 실화에 나타난 여성의 내러티브에 주목하여 이시기 여성 주체의 형성 과정을 재고하고자 하였다. 『여성』은 강력한 전시 체제의 가동에 있어 구심점이 될 ‘여성’을 가정의 경영자로 호명하면서 여성에게 요구되는 새로운 사회적 역할을 규범화하는 한편 독자란을 통해 이에 응답해 나가는 여성의 목소리를 함께 배치하여 이 시기 여성 담론을 조율해 가고자 했다. 본고는 이들 독자 실화를 대상으로 식민지 말기 여성이 근대의 체험을 자기화하면서 주체로 형성되어 가는 과정을 탐색하고, 이 시기 여성 담론에 대응해 나가는 여성 주체의 목소리를 확인하고자 하였다.
독자 실화에서 여성의 경험은 하나의 사건으로 의미화되며 재현의 주체로써 여성은 이야기의 중심에 서게 된다. 여성은 자신이 놓인 사회적 관계망을 탐색하면서 문제적 상황에 대응해 가는 주체적 면모를 보여준다. 여성은 현실을 부정하거나 회피하는 대신 내면의 목소리를 통해 자신의 세계를 회복하고자 노력한다. 이들 실화에서는 남성의 시선에서 배제되었던 여성의 이면을 통해 사회적으로 타자화된 여성의 실체를 드러내고 주체를 회복하고자 하는 시도도 발견된다. 남성 화자에 의해 그려진 여성의 이미지가 허구였음을 폭로하는 한편 욕망하는 대상으로부터 소외된 남성 주체의 위태로운 모습을 부각하는 것이다. 또한 가부장의 해체와 이에 대한 도전을 시도하는 여성 주체의 모습도 포착된다. 여성은 방탕에 빠진 남성을 대신하여 가정을 이끌어가는가 하면 미달한 가부장으로서의 남편을 교화하는 역할까지 수행한다. 가부장을 대신해 가정을 전면에서 이끄는 여성의 모습은 위기 상황에 대응한 여성의 역할 전환을 보여준다.
Abstract
This thesis tried to reconsider the process of formation of the female subject during this period by examining the true stories of eight readers published in 『Yeosung』. 『Yeosung』 standardized the new social role required of women as the manager of the household during the wartime period. Meanwhile, 『Yeosung』 tried to coordinate the discourse of women during this period by arranging the voices of women who responded to it through the reader section. In the reader's true story, women's experiences are signified as an event, and women stand at the center of the story. While exploring the social networks in which they are placed, women show the subjective aspect of responding to problematic situations. In these true stories, attempts to recover the subject and reveal the socially otherized woman's reality are also found through the other side of the woman who was excluded from the male gaze. It also captures the dissolution of the patriarchy and the female subject attempting to challenge it. The appearance of a woman who takes the place of the patriarch and leads the family at the forefront shows the shift in the role of women in responding to crisis situations.
