상실 주체와 ‘상실 주변’의 ‘(불)가능한 애도’ 양상 연구 : 권여선의 『레몬』을 중심으로

이 글은 애도 서사의 맥락 아래 권여선의 『레몬』을 놓고 그간 축적된 애도 (불)가능성의 담론을 차용하되 『레몬』의 특수한 지점을 찾아 그 양상과 의미 작용의 방식에 대해 살피는 것을 목표로 한다. 먼저 상실 주체인 ‘다언’의 우울증적 증상을 살피고 데리다의 애도 이론에서 ‘타자의 타자성’ 개념을 활용해 그것의 물리적 복원의 의미를 탐구한 뒤 부재하는 다른 인물로의 리비도 전위를 통해 애도 가능성을 찾아가는 과정에 대해 논의한다. 이 과정에서 상실 주체의 시적(詩的) 타자로의 존재 전환을 논구함으로써 『레몬』의 모든 화자가 시를 쓰는 인물로 설정되어 있는 궁극적 이유를 밝히고자 했다. 다음으로 주변인의 서사를 살핀다. 두 인물은 각자의 현실 안에서 상실과 타자의 의미를 탐구하는‘가능한’ 애도의 실천자들로 첫 번째 인물의 경우 상실 주체를 관찰하고 그의 아픔을 짐작하는 행위를 통해 당사자의 애도 과정을 애도하는 인물로 의미화했다. 그로 대변되는 주변인의 전형적 애도란 묻지 않음으로써 가능한 연대를 포함한다. 두 번째 인물은 간접적 가해 주체로 볼 수 있는 인물로 고립된 채 시 짓는 행위를 통해 신을 경배하고 구원받았다는 믿음을 가지고 있다는 데서 ‘가능한’ 애도를 실천하는 것으로 보았다.

This study situates 『Lemon』 in the context of mourning narratives and explores a specific point in 『Lemon』 using accumulated discourses on the (im)possibility of mourning in order to analyze its aspects and the way meanings operate. Although 『Lemon』 is a recent work, the genealogy begins at Ground Zero after the Sewol Ferry Incident, and active research is needed to identify the novelty of the literature on mourning and expand and popularize it. In particular, 『Lemon』 addresses not only the individual experiencing loss but also those in the surrounding community, and conveys a logic that enables the reader to reach the truth behind death. In addition, this novel portrays humans expressing extreme mourning in line with the essence of the literature, both in terms of practical as well as psychological behavior, which is the core aspect of the novel and this study. Due to such characters, the novel qualifies as a research topic. 『Lemon』 argues that although mourning is a natural way of surviving loss, immersing one’s entire body in mourning is still unethical. First, we assess depressive symptoms in the subject experiencing loss. Using Derrida's ‘the Otherness of the Other’ to inquire into the meaning of physical restoration, the study examines the way in which Libido's displacement to other absent figures leads to a discovery of the possibility of mourning. Here, the part where the main character argues for the conversion of existence into poetic human beings is significant, as it clarifies the underlying reason for setting up all the speakers in 『Lemon』 as poets. Next, the narrative of the surrounding people is examined. There are two characters who explore the meaning of loss and the other in their respective realities as practitioners of “possible” mourning. The analysis reveals them mourning their observation and predictive behavior, as well as their narcissistic mourning while confessing their sins as perpetrators.
