탈북 작가 김유경 소설에 나타난 모성 인식
초록
본고에서는 탈북 작가 김유경 소설에 나타난 모성(母性) 인식에 대하여 고찰하였다. 김유경은 장편소설 『청춘연가』와 『인간모독소』를 발표하며 2000년대 이후 활동하는 탈북자 출신 작가들 중 가장 주목받는 소설적 성취를 보여주었다. 1990년대 중후반 고난의 행군 시기 이후 탈북자의 폭발적 증가 추세와 더불어, 2000년대 이후 탈북 작가들의 작품 활동이 점차 늘어나고 있는 상황에서 탈북 문학에 대한 논의도 보다 풍성해질 필요가 있을 것이다. 본고에서는 특히 김유경의 작품에서 탈북 작가로서의 정체성이 모성성, 사랑, 죽음 등 인간의 근원적 존재의식에 미치는 영향에 대해 주목하였다.
작가가 발표한 두 편의 작품에서는 모두 모성 인식이 매우 핵심적인 감정의 계기로 기능하며, 이 과정에서 인간의 죽음과 모성이라는 근원적 문제가 밀접한 연관성을 나타낸다. 김유경의 소설에서 등장하는 여성 주체들은 특수하고 극단적인 상황에 처할 수밖에 없는 현실에서 다양한 방향의 모성 인식을 보여주고 있다. 그것은 인간의 근원적 문제인 사랑, 죽음, 거주 등과도 밀접한 관계를 지닌다. 『청춘연가』에서는 선화, 복녀, 경옥 등 세 여성의 모성 인식이 작품 전반의 서사에서 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 특히 주인공 선화의 모성 인식과 정체성 형성이 맺는 관계에 대해 주목할 필요가 있다. 『인간모독소』에서도 극단적 상황에 놓인 모성 인식의 문제가 중요하게 다루어진다. 정치범 수용소 수감자의 모성 인식과 아이의 탄생 및 죽음, 사랑이라는 요소들에 대해 작가는 계속해서 의미 있는 질문을 제기한다.
탈북자 혹은 정치범 수용소의 수용자라는 특수한 정체성이 죽음과 모성 인식에 미치는 영향은 탈북 디아스포라로 지칭할 수 있는 우리 사회만의 분단 문제와도 깊은 관련이 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 이러한 여성 주체의 모성 인식을 중심으로 김유경의 소설을 분석하면서, 경계를 넘나드는 탈북 디아스포라의 삶 속에서 가장 근본적인 사랑과 죽음의 문제가 형상화되고 있는 양상을 고찰하였다.
Abstract
In this article, we discussed the perception of maternal love in the novel of Kim Yu-gyeong, a North Korean defector. Kim Yu-gyeong is the most outstanding writer of North Korean defector-turned-writers who began to emerge anew since the 2000s. She published her first full-length novel, Love Song of the Young, in 2012, and published her second full-length novel in 2016, continuing her career centered on full-length novels. The number of North Korean defectors has increased a lot since the mid-to late 1990s when the country was on a march of hardship. Since the 2000s, the number of presentations of works by North Korean defectors has increased little by little, and the concept of North Korean defector literature has been discussed in earnest. Accordingly, there should be more discussions on the literature of North Korean defectors.
This article focused on Kim Yu-gyeong's work, which reveals both her identity as a North Korean defector and her concerns. Motherhood is important, especially in both of her two works. In this process, the fundamental problem of human death and motherhood is closely related. The impact of the special identity of North Korean defectors or inmates in political prison camps on the perception of death and maternal love is deeply related to the division of our society, which can be referred to as the North Korean defector diaspora.
