작가 김송의 자기검열과 일제강점기의 예술 활동 : ｢자전적 문예 반세기｣의 왜곡과 프롤레타리아 예술 활동의 복원을 중심으로

이 논문은 1979년 유신 말기에 씌어진, 작가 김송의 회고록 ｢자전적 문예 반세기｣를 근본적으로 문제 삼았다. 김송은 이 회고록을 통해 해방 이전 자신의 예술 활동이 반일 우익 민족주의적 성격을 지닌 것으로 기술하였다. 그러나 그의 회고록은 유신 말기에 과거의 사회주의 예술 활동을 은폐하고 날조하면서 씌어진, 철저한 반공시대의 자기 검열과 자기 미화의 성격을 지녔다.

발굴된 자료를 토대로 하면, 1920년대 후반부터 1930년대 초반, 김송은 카프의 일원으로서 김형용이란 예명을 사용하며 프롤레타리아 예술운동에 참여했던 작가이자 예술가였다. 주요 활동 영역은 연극과 영화 분야다. 김송은 조연급의 영화배우로도 출연했고, 스스로 동북영화제작소를 설립하는 등 영화에 대해 남다른 열정을 보였다. 이러한 경험을 바탕으로 1929년 ‘신흥영화제작동맹’의 발기인으로 참여했고 남궁운과 함께 이동영화제작단을 만들면서 프롤레타리아영화 제작운동에 참여하게 되었다.

김송의 프롤레타리아영화 운동은 카프와 긴밀한 관계가 있고 연극운동사의 측면에서 의미가 있다. 김송은 일본 유학시절부터 카프 동경지부와 관계를 맺으면서 연극부에 참여한다. 카프 동경지부 회원들이 식민지 조선에서 프롤레타리아 연극운동을 전개했을 때, 김송은 연극과 영화 현장의 경험을 바탕으로 작품을 제작하면서 프롤레타리아 예술운동에 참여했다. 카프는 일본의 지속적인 탄압과 열악한 여건으로 말미암아 공연 중지와 극단 해산을 거듭하면서도 게릴라식으로 프롤레타리아 연극운동을 지속해나갔는데, 김송 역시 카프 계열의 다양한 극단들에서 활약하며 카프 연극운동의 질곡과 함께 했다.

This treatise is first product of series planned for study on a writer Kim Song. It shows that important parts of his activities in Japanese Occupation of Korea in his memoir The half century of Autographic Literature and Arts distorted and glorified him as a rightist and anti-Japan Nationalist through self-censorship and fabrication of his artistic activities.

However, according to a lot of new materials founded in newspapers of 1930s, Kim Song whose real name was Kim Keum-song was a second pseudonym, and Kim Hyung-yong was his first pseudonym. He, a member of KAPF(Korea Artista Proleta Federacio), was an artist actively participated in proletariat arts movement from 1927 to the early 1930s. He worked more actively as a director and writer and especially producer in fields such as theater and movie than any other field.

Although his memoir The half century of Autographic Literature and Arts faces criticizing self-censorship and distortion of his artistic activities, nevertheless it is so significant that as a member of KAPF, Kim Song in Japanese Occupation Period of Korea played an very important role in KAPF movement.
