테크노-파시즘의 문학적 형상화 연구 : 일제 말기 소설에 나타난 기술-주체의 윤리를 중심으로

일제 말기에 창작된 리얼리즘 소설들 속에는 이 시기를 ‘테크노-파시즘’으로 규정할 수 있게 만드는 기술-주체들이 등장한다. 전쟁이 장기화되면서 특등의 대우를 받기 시작한 기술-주체들은 제국 일본의 기술관료들이 만들어낸 ‘신체제’와 ‘동아협동체론’, ‘대동아공영권’ 등의 담론을 수용하고, 기술의 우월성을 인정하면서 자신의 직분에 충실한 삶을 살아간다. 그러나 이들은 사회주의자들처럼 새로운 세계에 대한 꿈을 펼치지 못한 채, 지금 진행되고 있는 전쟁을 지원해야만 하는 현재의 시간 속에 갇힌다. 또한 이들은 사회가 요구하는 가치를 개인적인 ‘욕망’을 소거한 상태에서 기능적으로 실행한다. ‘테크노’와 친연성을 지닌 이들은 ‘파시즘’과 거리를 두는 듯 보였으나, 기술적 원리로 작동하는 ‘테크노-파시즘’ 속으로 이끌려 들어간다. 그래서 전쟁이 끝나고 해방을 맞이한 후 새롭게 자주 민족국가를 건설해야 하는 자유롭고 열정적인 주체들 틈에서, 기능주의에 중점을 둔 기술-주체들의 윤리는 더 이상 문학 작품 속에서 긍정적으로 그려질 수 없었다.

In a realism novel made at the end of the Japanese colonial era, technology-subject are emerging that can define this era as ‘techno-fascism’. As the war became prolonged, technology-subject began to receive excellent evaluations. And they accepted without criticism the discourse created by the technocrats of Imperial Japan. They appreciate the excellence of technology and lead a faithful life in their spiritless profession. But like socialists, they did not dream of a new world. Instead, they are trapped in the current time when they have to support the ongoing war. They also eradicate individual needs by functionally performing the values society demands. After the war, we had to build a new nation through free and enthusiastic subjects. In this gap, the ethics of the technology subject focused on functionalism can no longer be used.
