권정생 장편동화 『슬픈 나막신』 연구
초록
권정생은 작품을 발표하던 시점부터 작고한 지 10년이 지난 지금까지 아동문학 연구의 주된 대상이 되어 왔다. 그러나 그에 대한 연구는 작가의 생애에 압도되거나 기존의 비평적 평가를 답습하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 더욱이 정작 문학연구에서 중요한 작품의 분석은 몇몇 대표작에 그칠 뿐, 총체적인 작품의 평가에는 미치지 못하고 있다. 이에 이 연구는 그동안 충분히 거론되지 않았던 『슬픈 나막신』에 대해 주제 의식과 구성적 특성을 중심으로 규명하고자 하였다. 『슬픈 나막신』은 리얼리즘적인 방법을 바탕으로 고통 받는 어린이들의 삶을 다루며 현실을 넘어서고자 하는 간절한 기다림과 견뎌냄을 주제로 제시하고 있다. 또한 『슬픈 나막신』은 특정한 화자에 기대지 않고 여러 주인공들을 초점화자로 설정하며 파노라마적인 구성을 취하고 있다. 이를 통해 당대의 현실에서 겪는 어린이들의 고통을 다층적이고 폭 넓게 형상화하였다. 삽입요와 삽입연극을 서사 진행의 중요한 모티브로 삼아 중층적인 서사를 구성하고 있는 점도 특징적이다. 반면 『슬픈 나막신』의 주제를 드러내기 위해 삽입된 연극놀이는 작품의 구조적인 발전과 다소 동떨어진 채 서둘러 종결을 향해 감으로써 한계를 드러내기도 한다. 그럼에도 『슬픈 나막신』은 낭만주의와 계몽주의를 넘어서는 리얼리즘적인 방법을 치밀하게 구현하였으며, 향후 이어지는 한국전쟁 3부작의 바탕을 마련하고 있다는 점에서 그 의의를 평가할 수 있다.
Abstract
The research on Kwon Jeong-Saeng’s works is the main subject of children’s literature research from the time of his first work, 『Puppy Poo』 was published to the present. But such a research tends to be overwhelmed by the life of the author or follow the existing critical evalation. Moreover, the analysis of an important works is limited to a few representative works. And it falls short of the overall evaluation of works. Therefore, this study focused on 『Sad Clogs』 which had not been discussed in the past.
『Sad Clogs』 deal with the lives of suffering children as well as 『Puppy Poo』. However, unlike 『Puppy Poo』, the theme of dealing with children’s pain based on realistic methods and presented them with the eager waiting to endure reality. And 『Sad Clogs』 set up various characters who are not leaning on a specific focalized narrator for a broad reflection of reality. And they are presented in a panoramic unfolding in plot. Through these crafts, it was able to represent the suffering of children in the those days in a wide range. It is also characterized in that the structure of narrative is formatted in a multi-layered way through the inserted songs and inserted play. These inserted songs and plays are an important motive in the progression of narrative. On the other hand, 『Sad Clogs』 are hastily closing with the natural development of the work by inserting play to reveal the theme. This is evaluated as the limit chosen by the author to present the topic. Nevertheless, 『Sad Clogs』 can be appreciated in the realization of realistic methods beyond romanticism and enlightenment and made an role laying the groundwork for the subsequent trilogy of the war.
