김훈 소설에 나타난 호모 비아트로의 표상 연구
초록
이 연구는 김훈의 소설 세계 전반을 대상으로 ‘호모 비아트로’라고 할 만한 인물 유형의 의미를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 김훈의 소설에는 명시적으로 ‘길’에 대한 탐구의지를 보여 주는 대목도 있고, 징후적으로 길 모티프와 관련되어 있는 대목도 있다. 어떤 경우이든, 이 소설들은 길 위에 서 있는 호모 비아트로를 통해 소설의 길, 길의 소설이 전개된다는 점을 이 연구는 주목했다. 작가는 길, 혹은 길 가는 사람에 대해 왜 이렇게 단순히 깊은 인상을 넘어 운명적인 연루를 보여 주는 것일까.
『자건거 여행』이나 『개』의 작가 김훈에게 길은 곧 몸의 길인데, 이 길은 몸이 길을 소유하는 길이 아니라 길을 몸에 들임으로써 몸이 길이 되는, 길과 몸 동격의 길이다. 따라서 길에 대한 작가의 에세이즘이 본격적으로 펼쳐져 있는 작품에서 길은 인간의 관념적인 ‘말’과 대척점에 놓여져 있다. ‘몸의 길’이 함축하고 있는 이러한 반초월적·반형이상학적·반이데올로기적 지향성은 ‘내재성’ 개념으로 보다 분명한 이해를 얻을 수 있다고 이 연구는 판단했다. 내재성의 사유는 세상살이 부질없는 분별의 경계를 지우며 나아가 사회 질서 유지에 근간이 되는 전제마저 발본적인 회의에 부칠 수 있는 파괴력을 가질 수도 있다. 그렇다면 새로운 윤리 세계를 상상해 보는 것도 가능한 것이다. 그러나 김훈 소설에 나타난 호모 비아트로의 길 가기가 모두 이런 의미의 ‘탈주’로 요약될 수 있는 것은 아니다. 오히려 김훈 인물들의 길 가기의 지배적 경향은 결코 탈영토화의 탈주라고 판명할 수 없는 데 있다. 운명적 한계의 불가피성과 교착상태가 김훈이 창출한 비아트로 주체의 벗어날 수 없는 근본적인 한계 지평이라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the meaning of the type of person who can be called 'homo viátor' in Kim Hoon's novels. In Kim Hoon's novels, there is also a passage that expresses the will to explore 'the way' explicitly, and a passage that is related to the road motif in a symptomatic way. In any case, this study first noticed that these novels develop a way of the novel, a novel of the road through homo viátor, which stands on the road. Why does the writer show fatalistic implications beyond just deep impression of the road, or a person on the road?
For Kim Hoon, author of Bicycle Journey or Dog, the road is the road of the body. This road is not the road the body owns the way, but the road the body becomes the road by entering it. That is, the road and the body are equal. Therefore, in the work in which the author's essayism on the road is spreading in earnest, the road lies on the opposite side of the human's ideological language. This study concludes that this anti-transcendental orientation implied in the 'road of the body' can be understood more clearly through the concept of ‘immanence’. The idea of immanence erase the futile boundaries of discrimination in living. Furthermore, the idea of immanence may have the destructive power to give a radical skepticism even the premise underlying the maintenance of the social order. Then it is possible to imagine a new ethical world. However, not all of homo viátor's go along a way in Kim Hoon's novels can be summed up as a ‘flight’ in this sense. Rather, the predominant tendency of Kim Hoon’s characters to go along is that they can not be proved to be flight of deterritorialization. The necessity and deadlock of the fatal limit are the fundamental horizon of limit of viátor subject created by Kim Hoon.
