디지털 전환 시대 현대한국문학 연구의 동시대성 : 웹소설·대중문화 콘텐츠·AI 연구 경향을 중심으로

이 연구는 디지털 전환 시대에 한국문학 연구의 새로운 경향으로 출현한 웹소설, 대중문화, AI 중심 연구의 현주소를 짚어봄으로써, 문학연구가 동시대적이고 물질적인 현실과 조응하며 동기화되는 방식에 대하여 구체화한다. 웹소설과 웹플랫폼의 대두, OTT를 중심으로 하는 뉴미디어의 보편화, K컬처로 강조되는 대중문화의 영향력, 생성형 AI에 대한 포괄적인 관심에 이르기까지 오늘날 한국문학 연구는 이전에 없었던 동시대적인 변화와 적응을 수행하는 중이다. 이 연구는 포괄적으로 드러난 연구결과물에 대하여 메타적인 방식으로 정리해보고 오랫동안 전통적 형식을 고수해 왔던 문학연구가 동시대적인 적응 속에서 변화한 과정을 살펴보고 그 의미를 추적하는데 중점을 둔다.
무엇보다도 가장 큰 핵심은 문학연구를 둘러싼 연구 환경의 변화만이 아니라 연구대상과 방법론, 더 나아가 연구의 수용과 실천에 있어서의 물질성이 변화했다는 사실이다. 이는 웹소설과 대중문화 콘텐츠, 그리고 AI 관련 연구에 있어서의 불가피한 물질적 변화를 바탕으로 이루어지고 있으며 연구행위 자체를 둘러싼 메타적 인식을 끊임없이 환기한다. 웹소설은 집중된 독자집단의 물질성을, 대중문화 콘텐츠는 포괄적인 시대적 현실인식의 압축적 이해를, AI 연구는 문학연구의 대상으로서가 아니라 주체로서의 포스트휴머니즘과 그에 대한 메타적 인식을 동반한다. 변화한 한국문학 연구를 둘러싼 메타적 인식이야말로 가장 강력한 물질적 조건이 면서 동시에 우리 시대의 동시대성과 문학연구가 교차하는 방식이다.
Abstract
This study elucidates the ways in which literary research corresponds to and synchronizes with contemporary material reality by examining the current landscape of research centered on web novels, popular culture, and AI—new trends that have emerged in Korean literature studies in the era of digital transformation. From the rise of web novels and web platforms, the ubiquity of new media centered on OTT services, and the influence of popular culture emphasized as "K-Culture," to the comprehensive interest in generative AI, contemporary Korean literature research is undergoing unprecedented changes and adaptations. This study focuses on organizing these comprehensive research outcomes through a meta-analytical approach. It examines the process by which literary research, having long adhered to traditional forms, has transformed amidst contemporary adaptation, and traces the implications of this evolution.
The crux of the matter lies in the fact that there has been a shift in materiality not only in the research environment surrounding literary studies but also in the objects of study, methodologies, and further, in the reception and practice of research. This shift is grounded in the inevitable material changes within research on web novels, popular culture content, and AI, constantly evoking a meta-awareness surrounding the act of research itself. Web novels bring to the fore the materiality of concentrated reader groups; popular culture content involves a condensed understanding of comprehensive contemporary reality; and AI research entails post-humanism—not merely as an object of literary study but as a subject—along with the accompanying meta-awareness. The meta-awareness surrounding the transformed landscape of Korean literature research serves as the most potent material condition and, simultaneously, represents the intersection where the contemporaneity of our era meets literary research.
