‘노동자의 몸’에 대해 쓰기 : 송영과 이북명 소설의 직공 재현과 신체성

이 논문은 공장에서의 노동 경험을 소설 창작의 근간으로 삼았던 송영과 이북명의 소설을 중심으로, 노동자의 몸이 어떻게 재현되고 의미화되는지를 살핀다. 송영의 소설에서는 ‘본능에 반응하는 몸’이, 이북명의 소설에서는 ‘감각하고 통각하는 몸’이 노동자 주체-되기의 중요한 매개로 작동한다. 송영은 노동자의 몸에 각인된 식욕, 성욕, 수면욕 등의 본능에 주목하는가 하면, 이념적 사랑을 포함하는 몸적 사랑의 가능성을 탐구한다. 또한 이북명은 고통에 반응하는 몸의 감각들을 면밀하게 등장시키면서, 이것이 몸적 존재로서 노동자들의 연대 기반이 된다는 점을 보여준다. 이들의 소설에서 형상화된 노동자의 몸, 특히 그 본능과 감각은 그것이 개별적이면서도 사회적이라는 점을 드러낸다. 이들은 몸을 사회화함으로써 몸이 개인을 가두는 감옥이 아니라 저항과 연대의 물질적 토대일 수 있음을 전달한다. 이렇듯 송영과 이북명 소설의 리얼리티는 실제 몸을 통과한 이념을 통해 주조되는데, 이를 일종의 ‘몸-리얼리티’라고 칭해볼 수도 있을 것이다. 그리고 그러한 리얼리티에는 핍진성을 드러내 보여주는 것을 넘어선 주체화의 가능성에 대한 작가적 인식이 포함된다.

This paper examines how the body of the labores is represented and signified, focusing on the novels of Song Yeong and Lee Buk-myeong, who used their experiences of working in factories as the basis for their novel writing. In Song Yeong's novel, the 'body that responds to instinct' and in Lee Buk-myeong's novel, the 'body that senses and apperceives' function as important mediators of labores subject-becoming. Song Yeong pays attention to the instincts of appetite, sexual desire, sleeping desire, etc. imprinted on the body of the worker, and explores the possibility of bodily love, including ideological love. In addition, Lee Buk-myeong's close characterization of the bodily sensations that respond to pain shows that this is the basis of the labores' solidarity as bodily beings. The body of the labores, especially its instincts and senses as embodied in their novels, reveals that it is both individual and social. By socializing the body, they convey that the body can be a material foundation for resistance and solidarity, rather than a prison that locks up individuals. In this way, the reality in the novels Song Yeong and Lee Buk-myeong is cast through the ideology that passes through the actual body, which can be called a kind of 'body-reality'. And that reality includes these authors' awareness of the possibility of subjectivization that goes beyond the overt display of verisimilitudity.
