인조견을 두른 모럴리스트 : 김말봉 대중소설 창작방법론 연구

본고는 김말봉의 창작방법을 제시한 일련의 글들을 수집하여 김말봉 대중소설 창작방법론을 고찰하는데 그 목적이 있다. 김말봉 대중소설 창작방법에 첫 출발은 대중소설가 ‘선언’에 있다. 식민지 시기 김말봉의 글쓰기는 작가적 이상과 소설쓰기의 현실 사이에서 자신의 재능을 인지하고 이를 적극적으로 창작관으로 토착시키는 이행 과정이었다. 그리고 ‘여류문학계의 거장’이라는 작가적 위엄과 지속된 글쓰기가 작가로 하여금 당당히 대중소설가임을 천명할 수 있는 자신감이 되었다.

김말봉은 소설가 자신만을 위한 이기적 문학이란 의미에서 순수문학을 순수 귀신이라 비판하였고 사람들의 흥미와 기호에 영합하는 저속한 의미의 통속문학도 배격하였다. 김말봉은 대중을 위한 영양소, 대중문학의 사명으로 모럴을 주제화하였다. 그리고 모럴과 상호연관성을 갖는 상징적 장치와 전형적 인간성과 생동하는 인물의 하모니로 대중 독자들에게 강력한인상을 주었다.

김말봉이 추구하는 대중문학은 ‘대중이 진정 재미있게 읽을 수 있는 제재’로 ‘건전하고 정의가 승리하는 모랄’을 지향하는 문학이다. 그러므로 김말봉은 ‘인조견(1930년대 대중의 섬유)을 두른 모럴리스트’이다. 연애소설이라는 장르가 음식의 양념처럼 독자의 구미를 자극한다면 통속소설이 빠지기 쉬운 저속성을 모럴을 통해 극복하고 이를 통해 읽는 재미에만 그치는 것이 아니라 독자가 무엇을 얻었는가에 집중하는 것이 김말봉의 대중소설 창작방법론인 것이다

This study has a purpose of consideration of 'Kim mal bong's popular novel creation methodology with collecting her writings that indicate Kim mal bong's way of creation.
