리원길 소설에 나타난 개혁개방

Reform and Opening Appearing in Li Won-gil’s Novel

본고는 리원길 소설 전반을 관통하는 주제인 개혁개방기 농촌 개혁을 작가의 생애와 시대 상황과 관련지어 살펴보았다. 리원길은 문혁 이후 개혁개방이 시작한 시기에 등단하여 당시 문단의 주류였던 문혁의 상처를 다루고 농촌 개혁의 현실을 소설화하였다. 리원길의 작품 경향은 계급투쟁에서 개혁개방으로 급변하는 시기에 소설 창작을 시작한 그가 가질 수밖에 없는 시대정신의 결과라 하겠다. 개혁개방 초기 중국 사회가 지향하던 농촌 개혁과 관련한 주제를 소설화하여 조선족 문단을 대표하는 작가로 자리한 리원길은 개혁개방이 본격화되던 1990년대 중반부터 점차 창작으로부터 멀어진다.

리원길이 소설 창작에서 멀어진 것은 그가 통일된 이념이 사회를 지배하던 시기에 성장하고 등단하여 국가가 지향하는 시대적 주제를 소설화함으로써 단기간에 문단의 주목을 받은 점과 연관된다. 일정한 시대적 주제를 통일된 시각으로 작품화하는 세대를 대표하는 작가인 리원길로서는 독특한 현실 인식으로 새로운 창작 방법을 모색할 것을 요구하는 문학의 변화에 쉽게 적응하기 어려웠을 것이다. 이런 점에서 리원길이 새로운 시대를 담보할 독자적인 창작 방법을 구안하지 못하여 더 이상 소설을 창작하지 않겠다는 어려운 결정을 내렸다는 평가가 가능하다.

This study examines rural reforms in the reform and opening era, which is a general theme of Li Won-gil's novel, in relation to his life and the situation of the times. Li Won-gil entered upon his literary career at the beginning of the reform and opening after the Cultural Revolution, and treated the wounds of the Cultural Revolution, which was the mainstream of the literary world at the time, and made the reality of rural reform a fiction. Li Won-gil's works tend to be the result of the spirit of an era in which he began to create novels in a period of rapid change from class struggle to reform and opening. Li Won-gil, who became a representing author of the Joseonjok literary world by fictionizing the subject related to the rural reform that the China society in the early period of reform and opening was aiming at, gradually moved away from writing from the mid-1990s when the reform and opening began.

Li Won-gil's going away from writing novels is related to receiving notice of the literary world in a short period of time as he grew and emerged into the literary world at a time when a unified ideology dominated society, and he unfolded themes of the times that the nation aimed at into his novels. Li Won-gil, a representative writer of the generation who made certain themes of the times into a unified view, would have difficulty adapting easily to the change of literature, which calls for new creative methods with a unique perception of reality. In this perspective, Li Won-gil could not devise his own creative method to secure a new era, so it can be evaluated that he made a difficult decision that he would no longer write novels.
