Multilayered Subject and Collapsing Narrative Formats : A Study on the work of Choi In-seok in Postmodernistic Perception & Methodology

본 연구는 최인석 작가의 작품을 중심으로 포스트모더니즘적 주체 설정 및 인식의 변화에 따른 서사 변화를 일 고찰하였다. 이성적 주체 인식을 대체하는 새로운 주체인식(탈모더니즘적 인식)을 살펴보고, 포스트모더니즘 인식을 반영하는 소설은 어떠한 형식(Plot)과 플롯을 고안하는지, 인식 변화에 연동되는 서사구조 변화의 상성(相性) 관계를 살펴보았다. 과학과 합리성의 이성적 주체 인식을 부정하고, 허무적 패시미즘으로 일관한다는 특성을 지적하였는데, 포스트모더니즘적 소설의 특성과 시대적 필연성을 시사해 주었다.

최인석의 작품은 기존의 서사방식을 와해시키며, 현실의 혼돈 질서를 통찰하는 것으로 기존 플롯을 차용하지 않으며, 의미나 배경적인 측면에서도 모더니즘적 체제질서가 무너진 카오스적 환경과 분위기가 주조를 이루고 있었다. 의도의 발단, 해결의 교훈, 가치의 결말로 이어지는 기존의 서사구조를 사용하지 않고, 작가는 주인공들의 태생과 환경이 완전히 허물어진 갈등적 상황에 집중함으로써, 미적 장치 등 의도된 형식과 기존 플롯들마저 허물고 있었다.

또한 주인공들은 서사구조를 이끌어 갈 동력조차 없는 무력한 자아들, 자본 ‘노예’들로, 이러한 실제 현실의 자아는, 체제를 구성하는 언어나 서사구조에서도 이탈되어 있음을 규명하였다. 이상 추구의 의도와 교훈적 결말이란 기존 서사방식의 관습적 허구적 결말로 귀속되지 않으며, 자아와 환경에 대한 현실직시, 자본세계에 대한 깊은 통찰로서 오랜 서사구조의 관습을 벗어나고 있었다.

또한 이산가족, 고아로 자라온 주인공들이 오이디푸스적 시기를 안 거치며 욕망의 삼각구조의 작은 자아로 환원되지 않음을 지적하였다. 그들은 자연 중심의 자아로 성장, 체제 밖에서 체제의 불편부당함을 노출하며 체제에 대한 비관주의로 일관하고 있었다. 체제에서 추방된 그들이 정착된 곳(결말)은 또 다른 허상의 인공적 영토가 아니라 자본체제 하에 ‘양극화’된 자본 식민지라는 것을 밝힐 수 있었다.

작가는 거대자본 경쟁체제의 양극화로 치닫는 비인간적 혼돈상황을 벗어나기 위해선 ‘스스로 해체’되는 길 밖에 없다는 비관주의를 표방하며, 시종일관 무력함과 절망, 더할 수 없이 피폐된 환경과 정서를 보여줌으로써, 왜 포스트모더니즘 시대의 인식과 경향이 해체주의 및 패시미즘으로 일관하는가를 그 실제 현실을 재현함으로써 그 이유를 제공하고 있었다.

또한 동물적 인물 설정으로, 인물들이 처한 환경과 문화, 사유방식이 동물들의 비자본적 환경, 반문화적 생활, 반이데올로기적 본성과 다르지 않다는 작가의 통찰을 주목하였다. 동물과 마찬가지로 자본, 이성, 중심- 체제에 발조차 들이지 못한 세습 무산자들, 배제된 이탈자들의 현실을 확인할 수 있었다. 이성적 합리주의와 과학기계 생산체제에 대해 비판하고 그러한 현실을 초월하려는 포스트모더니즘적 인식이 비이성의 동물적 주인공, 비자본체제적 동물 환경을 설정한 것이라 해석하였다.

최인석의 작품은 인간과 동물의 존재를 같은 자연으로 인식하며, 이성중심주의, 인간중심주의 등 ‘중심주의’적 사유를 ‘반대anti’하고 ‘넘어서trans’는 포스트휴머니즘적 인식을 반영하는 것이라 보았다. 최인석 작가의 탈인간중심적 카오스의 환경, 탈이성적 인물 설정, 서사기법의 해체, 패시미즘적 인식이라는 요소요소가 포스트모더니즘 시대의 서사의 지각변동을 보여주고 있었다.

The study looked at the nature of the change in the structure of the epic structure, which works to change the subject and perception of postmodernism. The novel Postmodernism, a reflective novel, looked at what format and plot is designed, and the relationship of the narrative structure that works for changes in perception.

Denying the rational subject of science and rationality, it pointed to the characteristic of consistent passimism, which suggests the figure and the chronological inevitability of postmodernism.

Part of Choi's work breaks down past narrative method, he was designing a plot to order the chaos of reality. in terms of meaning or background, the Passimism of the Caoan environment, where the modernistic system has collapsed, has been evolving. The existing narrative structure is not used. The author was not borrowing the intended format and the group past plot, which was intended by the protagonist's birth and environment.

In addition, the protagonists were powerless to lead the narrative structure, and they could confirm that the real self-reliance of the real reality is also an escape from the language or the narrative structure that constitutes the system.

The intent of the pursuit, and the moral ending, is not to be haunted by the custom of past narrative method. They were taking away from the long-standing narrative of self-reliance and morality, which was intended as an insight into the environment.

He also pointed out that the characters who grew up in separated families, orphans, grew into natural-oriented self-sufficiency, exposed the discomfort of the system outside of the system, and were consistent with pessimism about system. They pointed out that where they were settled in the system (ending) was not another fictitious artificial territory, but a capital colony that was 'polarized' under capital systems. The author was understanding the decommissioning and passimism of postmodernism by showing the infidelity, desperation, and unequivocal circumstances and emotions.

Animal figures also noted the authors'insight that the environment, culture, and private way of living in the environment, the non-capitalist environment and the anti-ideological nature of the class were not different from the anti-cultural nature of the class. As with animals, they could see the reality of those who were excluded from capital, rational, central- and central-system. The Postmodernistic Reality of Post-Modernist Animal Environment, which is criticized for criticism of rational rationalism and the production system of science and machinery, has established an animal environment for non-capitalist animals.
