텍스트의 무의식과 젠더적 욕망 : 『효풍』에 나타난 부자관계 모티프를 중심으로

The unconscious of text and gendered desire : Focusing on the father-son relationship motif in “Hyo-pung”

이 논문은 염상섭의 해방기 첫 장편소설 『효풍』에 나타나는 부자관계 모티프를 중심으로 텍스트의 구성상의 특징과 그 작용을 통해 드러나는 효과를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 텍스트는 작가가 의도하는 바와 그 의도와는 무관한 텍스트 자체의 작용을 구분할 필요가 있다는 점에서 텍스트의 무의식은 작가의 의도와는 별개로 작동하여 텍스트적 효과로 나타난다. 이 논문에서 젠더적 욕망은 텍스트의 작용에 따른 구성적 결과물과 그 잉여라는 점에서 그것은 작가의 의도나 전략 속에 반영된 작가의 욕망이 드리워진 텍스트의 무의식으로 본다.

『효풍』은 여성주인공 혜란이 서사의 비중을 크게 차지하고 남자주인공 병직이 여러 장에 걸쳐서 부재하다가 결말부에 다시 나타나 급작스럽게 문제가 해소된다. 이러한 결말 처리 방식은 작품의 개연성을 떨어트리는 한계로 평가받아왔다. 근대민족국가 형성의 주역으로서 여성의 역할에 의미를 부여한다면 전체 서사를 구성하는 장의 대부분이 여성주인공을 중심으로 할 때 예외적으로 김관식을 전면화하여 다룬 9장과 10장은 설명이 미흡할 수밖에 없다.

민족주의의 남성성의 유대이자 부자관계 모티프의 변이확장으로서 ‘아버지의 딸’은 새로운 남성성의 유대 관계를 설정할 때 정신적 아버지와 아들을 이어주는 매개자로서 자발적 타자화되는 역할을 한다. 이로써 남성작가의 욕망은 텍스트의 무의식상에서 남자주인공의 침묵과 부재를 무조건적으로 이해하고 포용하는 이상적 여성의 구원 환상을 통한 젠더적 욕망으로 나타난다.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the compositional characteristics of the text and the effects revealed through its action, focusing on the father-son relationship motif appearing in Yeom Sang-seop's first full-length novel Hyo-pung during the liberation period. In that it is necessary to distinguish between the intention of the writer and the action of the text itself, which is unrelated to the intention, the unconsciousness of the text operates independently of the intention of the writer and appears as a textual effect. In this thesis, in that gender desire is a constructive result of the text's action and its surplus, it is regarded as the unconsciousness of the text overlaid with the artist's desire reflected in the artist's intention or strategy.

In “Hyo-pung”, the female protagonist, Hye-ran, takes up a large portion of the narrative, and the male protagonist, Byeong-jik, is absent for several chapters, then reappears at the end, and the problem is suddenly resolved. This way of handling the ending has been evaluated as a limitation that lowers the probability of the work. If we give meaning to the role of women as the leading players in the formation of a modern nation-state, when most of the chapters constituting the entire narrative are centered on the female protagonist, chapters 9 and 10, which deal with Kim Gwan-sik as an exception, are inevitably insufficient. As a bond of masculinity in nationalism, As the bond of nationalism's masculinity and the variational expansion of the father-son relationship motif, 'father's daughter' plays the role of voluntary otherising as a medium that mediates the spiritual father and son when establishing a new bond of masculinity. As a result, the male writer's desire appears as a gendered desire through the rescue fantasy of an ideal woman who unconditionally understands, accepts and embraces the male protagonist's silence and absence in the unconscious of the text.
