The Bilingual Situation and the Division of the Subject at the End of the Colonial Period

이 글에서는 김사량의 ｢천마｣를 대상으로 하여 이중 언어 상황과 일본문단에 통합되어가는 조선문단의 재편 과정 속에서 식민지 조선인 문학자의 존재 방식에 대해 살펴보았다. 식민지 말 전시총동원 체제기 전쟁 수행을 위한 동화 이데올로기의 확산은 식민지인들로 하여금 제한적·폐쇄적 위상을 극복하고 새로운 자기를 구축할 수 있는 욕망을 불러일으켰다. 하지만 제국-식민지 사이의 위계화된 차별적 구조는 지속되고 있었다. 이는 국민문학으로서 조선문학의 역할과 책무를 강조하고 있음에도 불구하고, 조선문학의 일본문학으로의 복속을 말하는 식민지 문학장 내부에서도 반복되고 있었다. 김사량은 조선어 폐지와 일본어 전용이 주창되고 있는 상황 속에서 조선어와 일본어, 두 개의 언어에 의한 창작의 필요성을 피력한다. 그런데 일본어와 조선어의 이중 언어 창작은 결국 제국-식민지 체제의 위계화된 차별적 구조를 재생산할 뿐이었다. 따라서 보다 주목해야 할 것은 체제의 질서와 문법을 초과하는 인간의 존재 방식에 있다. ｢천마｣의 현룡처럼 광기에 사로잡혀 분열하는 주체의 흔적들을 통해 체제를 비판적으로 사유할 수 있는 지점이 바로 여기에 있다.

In this article, by targeting Kim, Sa-ryang’s “Cheonma”, I looked into the way of existence of colonial Joseon litterateur in the process of reorganization of the Joseon literature that is being integrated into the Japanese literature and the bilingual situation. The spread of the assimilation ideology for warfare during the period of total mobilization at the end of the colonial period aroused the desire of the colonists to overcome the restricted and closed status and build a new self. However, the hierarchical and discriminatory structure between the empire and the colony persisted. Despite the emphasis on the role and responsibility of Joseon literature as a national literature, this was repeated even within the colonial Joseon literature center, which spoke of the subordination of Joseon literature to Japanese literature. Kim, Sa-ryang emphasizes the need for creation in two languages, Korean and Japanese, in a situation where the abolition of the Korean language and the use of the Japanese language are advocated. However, the bilingual creation of Japanese and Korean only reproduced the hierarchical and discriminatory structure of the imperial-colonial regime. Therefore, it is worth paying more attention to the way of human existence that exceeds the order and grammar of the regime. This is the point where we can critically think about the regime through the traces of the subject who is seized by madness and is divided like Hyeon-ryong in “Cheonma”.
