전후 소설의 전개와 오디세우스 마스터플롯의 세 전형 : ｢생활적｣, ｢광장｣, ｢무진기행｣을 중심으로

이 논문은 한국전쟁 이후 소설의 전개 과정을 오디세우스 마스터플롯이라는 형식을 통해 살펴본 것이다. 이 관점에서는 소설의 배경이나 주제보다 인물들의 관계, 특히 남성 인물이 서로 다른 성격을 지닌 두 여성 인물과 맺는 관계가 탐사의 초점이 된다. 이 글은 ｢생활적｣, ｢광장｣, ｢무진기행｣등의 소설에서 남성 인물이 여성 인물과의 성적 관계의 문제를 해결하는 방식의 차이를 드러내고, 그 차이로부터 시대적 성격을 추출해보고자 했다. 세 소설은 남성 인물이 현실로부터 받은 억압과 그로 인한 불안을 여성 인물과의 관계를 통해 해소하는 태도를 공통적으로 취하고 있으면서도, 문제가 어느 정도 해결된 이후 원래의 관계로 복귀해야 할 상황에서 시간의 흐름에 따라 그 선택의 무게중심이 윤리적 충동의 축으로부터 현실적 욕망의 축으로 이동하는 양상을 보여주고 있었다. 이전에 비해 비교적 분명하게 현실적 욕망의 방향을 선택한 ｢무진기행｣은 이 국면의 잠정적인 종착점이라고 할 수 있는데, 그렇지만 그 선택이 남긴 ‘부끄러움’은 이후 시기의 소설이 극복해야 할 새로운 과제로 설정되고 그에 따라 오디세우스 마스터플롯은 새로운 형태로 구성되어 나가게 된다.

This thesis examines the development process of the novel after the Korean War through the form of the Odysseus masterplot. From this point of view, the focus of the exploration is on the relationship between the characters, especially the relationship between a male character and two female characters with different personalities, rather than the background or theme of the novel. This article tried to reveal the difference in the way male characters solve the problem of sexual relations with female characters in novels such as “Saenghwaljeok”, “Gwangjang”, “Mujin-Gihaeng”, and to extract the characteristics of the times from the differences. In the three novels, the male protagonist takes the attitude of relieving the oppression and anxiety caused by reality through relationships with female characters in common, but as time passes, the center of gravity shifts from the axis of ethical impulse to the axis of realistic desire. “Mujin-Gihaeng”, which chose the direction of realistic desire relatively clearly compared to the previous ones, can be said to be the tentative destination of this phase, but the ‘shame’ left by that choice is set as a new task to be overcome by the novels of the later period. As a result, the Odysseus masterplot will be composed of a new form.
